The Team

The Focus is an hour of objective sports talk for both the hardcore and casual fan. We aim to educate listeners as well as inform them, we discuss the latest headlines in both national and local sports. We wish to be known as a reliable media outlet for fans and an interactive outlet for all.

Octavia Wyatt

Graduate of North Carolina A&T, Wyatt has been a stalwart for The Focus since its inception. A former high school basketball player at Gwynn Park High School out of Brandywine, MD, Wyatt brings a unique level of expertise in her analysis of various sports, most notably football and basketball.

Wilson Tarpeh Jr

Wilson graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting in 2008; he had two internships upon graduating, Comcast Sportsnet and Sportsmaryland.com. While pursuing opportunities in the industry, Wilson chose to be proactive and start a blog. That led to creating a media outlet, over time with hard work it became credentialed in the D.C. area. My Mind on Sports has covered high school sports, collegiate sports, NBA, WNBA, MLS and more since it's inception. My Mind on Sports teamed up with Finest Magazine to create The Focus TV in 2017. The Focus airs weekly on DCTV and has it's own Roku channel on all Roku Televisions and devices. That's significantly extended the reach for all parties involved and the Roku channel is updated as new content is created. During the pandemic, the Focus added more digital programming to assists with it's coverage. Examples are Wizards Outlook, Mystics Outlook, and programs for both the Mens and Womens USA Basketball teams during the most recent Olympics.

Raymond Lyons

A Washington DC native with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Coppin State University. Is deeply passionate about the game of basketball. Has coached AAU and at the high school level in previous years. Runs Lyons Den Sports Media LLC which houses a sports blog (https://lyonsdensports.com), YouTube channel (Lyons Den Sports), and a podcast series “Hoops Unfiltered” which can be found on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and iHeart Radio. Has covered HS, College, NBA, G League and WNBA. Also an experienced photographer and videographer. Helped with the execution of the Ball Up Million Dollar Summer Challenge in 2015 which aired on ESPN. Member of The Focus team since 2019.

Cardell Dudley Jr

 Founder of Finest Magazine, an online magazine dedicated to DMV basketball at all levels and co-host and producer of The Focus, Cardell Dudley Jr is a basketball lifer who is focused on making sure DMV basketball has a permanent platform. A former college basketball player who  began writing for Dime and Bounce Magazine in 2010 with a full length story published in Bounce Magazine issue 27 in the summer of 2011, Dudley Jr  is also currently the DMV Regional Scout for the Nike and USA Basketball sponsored Jim Couch National Training Showcase, a high school basketball showcase featuring the top high school basketball players in the country.
